The Belgian battlefields offer a unique glance in to the past, with an opportunity to visit the memorials that help pay thanks and respect to those that fell for freedom.
We depart South Wales and head to Folkestone and the channel tunnel terminal for our afternoon crossing to Northern France .
From here it's just a 90 minute drive to our base for the weekend, Ostend.Staying at the Ostend hotel in the heart of the city and including 4 nights bed and breakfast.
Ostend itself is a seaside resort but is a traditional city centre too.
Famed for it's food, the marina is lined with fresh fish stalls and the dozens of restaurants have never failed to impress our regular visitors.
Hedd Wyn , Ypres and Dunkirk.
Through the week we visit Artillery Wood, home of the grave of Hedd Wyn. The Welsh language poet was killed during the battle of Passchendaele, the new Welsh monument , Passchendaele museum and have an evening in Ypres, with an opportunity to be there for the Last Post at the Menin gate.
We'll also visit Dunkirk. The beaches where the evacuation took place are marked with a monument to those that braved the seas to save so many.
